  A hike along the Clinch River, intended to be a wildflower hike, ended up too late in the year. It was still beautiful, if more green than anything else.

  The Loyston Loop Trail, along the Clinch River in Tennessee, provided views of strange textures, spooky trees, and the occasional mountain biker.

  The Judge Branch Trail in Frozen Head State Park is a short 2-mile hike with small waterfalls and a picturesque creek to cross.

  The Seven Islands Loop Trail is a great way to enjoy the scenery and avian fauna of this local Knoxville gem.

  No need to go all the way to the Great Smoky Mountains for good hiking in the Knoxville area. House Mountain is just a short drive away and offers amazing views.

  I was finally able to find the Huskey Gap Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains and trek upwards while listening to a science fiction book from the late nineteenth century.

  Cold? Oh, yes. Steep? Yes, certainly. But is a hike up Blood Mountain in North Georgia with good people worth it in the end? Absolutely.

  The Dark Hollow Trail and the Ghost House Trail seem like two of the best hikes to take on a Halloween at Big Ridge State Park.

  Little tip for the hiker in the Great Smoky Mountains: if you hike anywhere near Cades Cove in the fall, be sure to consider those coming to the park to admire the fall foliage.

  Transitioning to a new job in a new city in a new state can be a stressful time, so I headed up to the Andrews Bald Trail in the Smokies to make some new connections.
